In late October, facilities manager Tom Darlow presented Caledon Council with the Town Hall Campus master plan.

“At the request of Council in 2013, a comprehensive Town Hall Civic Campus plan was completed. The study took a holistic view of the entire campus, which includes Town Hall, Caledon East Community Centre, fire admin, OPP, sports fields, the Caledon East Paramedic station and everything in between,” explains Darlow to Council.

Each project brought to Council is to be individually discussed for final approval through conversation of the budget as well as a business case and community need, explains Darlow.

Several projects from the original master plan have already been approved by Council and successfully completed. These include the OPP station, the reconfiguration of Old Church Road, the new paramedic station as well as a splash pad.

The Caledon East Community Centre is currently underway for construction along with the closure of the access to the centre. Another project approved is ‘green spine’ trails which will connect to Old Church Rd, town hall over to the community centre as well as a walkway from the main Old Church Rd to the community centre.

“Essentially our goal is to try to make the entire area a walkable area,” states Darlow.

Many other projects have been brought to the table including a skate and bike park, tennis area, leash free park and even a community garden has been considered.

Greener lighting through solar panels questions arose by Coun. Nick DeBoer, which led to future goals for future designs.

“There already has been a study done for feasibility for the existing town hall. Our goal would be where we into detailed design there in the next few years that other features like that would be included,” explained Darlow. “Essentially town hall specifically on being our main administration centre there, you really want to be doing showcase type projects here or there to show these technologies.”

He later added, “Every project that’s been identified here that hasn’t already been approved will have to come with a business care with the community need and with the costs, so council can full consider whether that project meets the requirements of the town.”

Town Hall is planning on performing an optimizing study to utilize the existing space, and plan for an expansion design by 2021/2022.
