The Bolton Dodgers could find success neither on the road nor at home in the first week of the North Dufferin Baseball League season.
Bolton’s AA senior representatives were blown out 11-0 by the Ivy Leafs last week, and fell short of a comeback in a 3-2 loss to the Orangeville Giants in their home opener.
Veteran pitcher Shawn English was tagged for the loss at Victoria Park in Ivy, sharing the brunt with another veteran on the mound Tysen Hansen. English gave up six runs over the first five innings of work, while Hansen was the victim of five in the sixth and final inning.
The Dodgers managed just two hits in the contest, off the bats of power hitter Michael Gemmiti Shawn Hansen.
In their first game at North Hill Park in Bolton, the Dodgers were a much different team. Both they and the Giants remained scoreless through the first two innings, when Bolton’s Jon Bloomfield came in for the first run of the game.
Starting pitcher Ron DiPalma was perfect until the fourth inning, when a string of hits brought in three runs for the Giants. Though he followed up with two more innings of shutout ball, followed by a perfect seventh inning from Shawn Hansen, the Dodgers could manage only one more run in the seventh scored by Marlon Young.
Bolton outhit Orangeville by a total of 5-3 in the contest.
