During my time as the Caledon Fair Ambassador, I’ve been able to meet many exciting people.
This is one of the perks of the program. You meet people who are nice and outgoing, and always ready to lend you a helping hand. I’ve particularly enjoyed visiting and experiencing other local fairs, but making new friends is the best part of the experience.
The ambassador program provides a personal building opportunity. You go from fair to fair, get into situations that are unfamiliar and then you find out that it is easier than first you thought. Having now spoken at a number of public events, the familiarity of talking to large groups of people has given me the capabilities I needed to further myself at university.
Currently I am an architecture student at Carleton University. I have always been very self-conscious about public speaking. This new skill has helped me when I present projects to a panel of university professors and practicing architects.
I encourage those who are between the ages of 12 and 22 to compete for this exceptional leadership program. Not only will you get the chance to learn how to overcome your own weaknesses, but will also get the opportunity to do many new things that you would never have the chance to try. You might drive a tractor and learn to plow, participate in fair run competitions and much more. You will be able to visit the surrounding fairs in your area along with many other fun and interesting formal events.
Those who are interested should contact Lindsay Bebbington at [email protected]. The Caledon Fair has competitions for a Junior Ambassador (ages 12 to 16) as well as a Senior Ambassador (ages 17 to 22).
This is an exciting experience that you’ll wish you hadn’t missed out on. I look forward to seeing you all at the Fair, which takes place June 6 to 8 at the Caledon Fairgrounds.
Patrick Forster
Senior Ambassador,
Caledon Fair
