Be careful near waterways

April 12, 2017   ·   0 Comments

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) urges residents to stay well back from waterways, ditches, ponds and lakes this time of year.
CVC and TRCA remind residents of the dangers that can exist near all waterways and bodies of water at this time and urges people to keep family and pets away from any water’s edge.
Spring is quickly approaching. With warmer temperatures, people look forward to getting outdoors. Warmer temperatures, however, can also bring rain, melting snow and shifting ice which can contribute to higher, faster flowing water in watercourses.
This winter brought higher than average rainfall. As a result, the ground may be saturated in many places. In periods of intense rain, there could be a higher amount of runoff in a much shorter time than usual. In addition, slippery and unstable stream banks and extremely cold water can lead to very hazardous conditions close to any body of water.
For more information, contact TRCA at 416-661-6600 or 1-888-872-2344, or CVC at 905-670-1615.
