When it comes to learning about oysters and oyster excellence, Barney Beckett is the man to talk to.
He has been running Barney’s Oyster Excellence out of Caledon village, specializing in catering private parties — “any event, any party with just oysters.”
Beckett explained that he left the construction trade after about 30 years and took a bartending course. That was followed by a job at a local pub, where he found himself shucking oysters.
“I saw the interest of it,” he said. “It’s becoming more of an interest. People like it.
It’s something different to have at your event.”
He added they can be used for just about any occasion. “They go with anything,” he said.
Beckett also said there is an entertainment component too, complete with stories and jokes, along with anecdotes he’s learned about oysters.
“I enjoy being around people,” he said. “I’ve always got a story.”
