While in Belgium recently, Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson signed a book of condolence for former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, who died April 8. “Margaret Thatcher was a powerful political force in the 1980s and she single-handedly reshaped modern Great Britain,” Tilson said. “Her defence of the Falkland Islands as well as her work with President Reagan in bringing about the end of the Cold War have cemented her place as one of the most important political leaders of the 20th century. As a Conservative, I was inspired by Mrs. Thatcher’s determination to rescue Great Britain from near economic collapse at the end of the 1970s. She will be remembered for her strength of will and her fearless defence of free markets.” Tilson was in Belgium leading an all-party delegation of Canadian MPs and Senators in his role as President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association.
