This coming Saturday (May 10) will be World Lupus Day in Caledon.
Caledon council proclaimed the day at their meeting Tuesday.
The body of the motion passed by council stated Lupus is an autoimune disease that can cause severe damage to organs and tissue in the body; in some cases resulting in death. It added that the illness affects more than five million people around the world, with in excess of 100,000 being diagnosed every year. As well, the motion stated the medical research efforts to find safer and more effective treatment methods are badly underfunded.
“There is a deep, unmet need to educate and support individuals and families affected by lupus,” the motion stated.
