A concerned citizen is being credited with helping Caledon OPP catch a suspected impaired driver early in the morning of June 22.
Police report they got the call a little before 1:50 a.m. that someone who seemed impaired was driving a Ford Edge on Airport Road. The driver has gone into a ditch, but was able to get out and continue heading north.
Police were able to find the car and pull it over at the intersection with Leamster Trail in Caledon East. An officer was quickly able to detect a strong smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath.
A 49-year-old woman from Brampton was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in her system. Her licence was suspended on the spot, and the car was impounded for seven days.
Police urge the public that if they suspect someone is driving or is about to drive impaired, they should call 9-1-1 and report it. And if see someone is impaired and intends to drive, to try and stop them.
