Flags have been ordered at half-staff throughout the Town of Caledon in memory of Richard Whitehead.
The former Regional councillor for Wards 3 and 4 died Wednesday afternoon. He was 71.
Mr. Whitehead had been one of the original members of Town council, as well as Peel Regional council, as both bodies were formed in 1974. He returned to politics in 1991 as the Regional representative for Wards 3 and 4. He was out of office for three years after making an unsuccessful bid for mayor in 2003, and served continuously until his defeat in last fall’s municipal elections.
In a brief statement issued Wednesday night, Mayor Allan Thompson announced there will be a private family service, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
