Flags at Town Hall were lowered this week in memory of Sam Jones.
Caledon’s former treasurer died Sunday. He was 73.
“Those who knew and had the privilege to work with Sam will remember him for having a kind heart, a sense of humour and for being a stickler for details,” Mayor Allan Thompson said in a statement issued Monday. “He was an old-school type of accountant who served our municipality with pride and distinction.”
Former Mayor Emil Kolb recalled it was himself and his predecessor John Clarkson who hired Mr. Jones, remembering they were looking for someone who would help run the Town as a business and in a more cost-effective manner.
“We just liked his style and thinking,” Kolb said. “I think he left Caledon in good standing.”
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife Susan, his children Laurie (Ashley), Meghan (Rob) and Paul (Maria), his grandchildren Denessa, Benjamin, Thomas, Lochlan, Connor and Josephine, siblings and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Services for Mr. Jones are planned for today (Thursday) at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7 Lacey Court in Aurora at 11 a.m.
The family encourages donations to be made independently to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Liver Foundation.
