Regional Councillors currently elected by Ward, but system could be changed to an at-large system where voters pick two regional councillors from one list of all candidates

The Town of Caledon is considering changing the way it elects Regional Councillors.
Currently, Regional Councillors are elected by Ward. There’s one Regional Councillor for Wards One, Two and Three; and, one for Wards Four, Five and Six.
Under the potential new system, voters from all wards would vote for two Regional Councillors from one list of candidates — Wards would not be factored into the equation.
There are several ways for residents to make their voices heard in discussion on the potential change.
On April 15 at 7 p.m., the Town is hosting a public meeting on the topic in Council Chambers at Town Hall (6311 Old Church Road, Caledon East). Those interested in delegating at the meeting can email [email protected].
There is also a survey on the topic online at the following link: haveyoursaycaledon.ca/votingsurvey.
Residents can complete the survey until April 22.
Comments about the topic can also be sent by email to [email protected].
At present, Town staff plan to bring a staff report on the potential voting method change to Caledon Council’s May 6 General Committee meeting.
Caledon’s next municipal election is scheduled for October 26, 2026.
