At long last, and after several years of work, the Master Plan for the Alton Millpond’s rehabilitation is complete.
A public open house is planned for tonight (Sept. 10) to reveal the plan. It will be at the Alton Mill Arts Centre. There will be a complimentary barbecue from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by the presentation and discussions from 7 to 8:30.
Project consultants and committee members will be present to share the newly-developed Master Plan with the public.
The Master Plan is the result of several years of committee work, fundraising, studies and hard work by a team of professional consultants to develop a plan for how to rehabilitate this important feature in Alton. There is still much more work to be done, but the Master Plan is a big step forward towards realizing a vision incorporating ecological stewardship, enhancement of the Shaw’s Creek watershed, recreation and environmental education, public art and development of a long-term approach for the ownership, maintenance and management of the millpond and related structures.
