Excitement is building for a local theatre company’s inaugural show.
On October 26 at 7:30 p.m. the curtain will rise at the Vaughan Playhouse and Over the Footlight Productions will put on its first-ever show: “Something Rotten.”
Over the Footlight Productions is a not-for-profit theatre company specializing in musical theatre. It was started earlier this year by longtime Caledon residents Lucy Todish and John Thomas.
Todish and Thomas both have a passion for musical theatre, which led them to start Over the Footlight Productions and partner with the Stage Academy Theatre Association to put on a show.
The pair decided the first show they’d put on would be “Something Rotten” as Todish said it’s a high-energy show that’s funny, has great costumes, and interesting songs and dances.
The show follows the lives of Nigel and Nick Bottom, struggling playwrights in 1590s London.
They’re trying to write the next big hit, only their competition is someone pretty notable: William Shakespeare.
The actors, stage crew and volunteers of Over the Footlight Productions have been hard at work all year preparing to put on their performance. They have been rehearsing at the Albion Bolton Community Centre.
“It’s very exciting,” said Todish of being less than a month away from showtime. “The cast has been amazing, they’ve been working really hard. Now we just want to make sure that we’ve got the support and audience for them to do their best and shine their light on stage.”
Over the Footlight Productions is putting on four performances of “Something Rotten” at the Vaughan Playhouse (1000 New Westminster Drive). The dates and times are as follows: October 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m.; and October 29 at 1:30 p.m.
