There will be lots of chances to celebrate Canada Day in Caledon

Canada Day is drawing near, and preparations for a number of events continue.
Caledon’s business sector is showing its usual interest in the community celebrations. Members of the Town’s Canada Day Committee, including council representatives Patti Foley and Richard Whitehead, and representation from Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) were presented with cheques from some local companies in support of the celebrations planned for Albion Hills Conservation Area.
Chris Hartlieb, proprietor of the Canadian Tire store in Bolton, presented a cheque.
“Canada Day, Canadian Tire: It’s a good community event we want to support
Cheques were presented at Albion Hills too. One was a contribution granted by James Dick Construction Company, presented by Anne Dick on behalf of the company.
“We like to support community causes,” she said. “We are strong supporters of Caledon’s Canada Day celebrations.”
Another cheque was presented by Sam Morra on behalf of Bolton Gateway Developments, the company that is developing lands near Albion-Vaughan Road.
“It’s a special day to celebrate,” said Morra. “We want to make it (Canada Day) as accessible to as many people as possible.”
The Albion Hills celebration will be a large event. Last year’s festivities attracted around 6,800 people. This year, there will be pony rides, a petting zoo, a magician, boat and canoe rentals, nature hikes and caterers that will include strawberry shortcake and other goodies spread out across the large campground. The celebration will, of course, be concluded with a fireworks display at dusk. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. and run to 11.
There will also be a Caledon Day celebration hosted by Kennedy Road Tabernacle Church at the Brampton Christian School on Highway 10, near Valleywood, in Caledon from 4 to 10 p.m. This celebration will host a dunk tank, bouncy castle, a variety of carnival games and about five different lunch trucks. There will also be an appearance by the Katinas, a Christian band consisting of five brothers from American Samoa.
As well, the Caledon Agricultural Society will host the 25th annual Canada Day Strawberry Festival at the Caledon Fairgrounds in Caledon village.
Live concerts, miles of classic cars, canine agility demonstrations, the Kids’ Zone, treasure trove shopping and luscious field-fresh strawberries await visitors, starting at 9 a.m.
As well, family fun will highlight the Canada Day celebration at Downey’s Farm on Heart Lake Road.
It will start at 9 a.m. and the day will feature live entertainment, canines performing and the chance to celebrate with a piece of Canada’s birthday cake.
