Swing into Spring in Hillsburgh with Count Basie and ‘Chicago’

April 11, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Brampton’s Chinguacousy Swing Orchestra takes to the Century Church Theatre stage again this Saturday (April 12) for the seventh annual Hot Night in Hillsburgh, also known in band circles as The Hillsburgh Habenero Hustle.
A special feature this year will be a tribute to Count Basie. It was 50 years ago that Oscar Peterson released Night Train, and the band will honour that recording with its own version of the famous Count Basie tune. There will be other Basie “bests” to be heard, as well as a tribute to Glenn Miller and a selection from the 1970s horn-driven pop band, Chicago. In addition, there will be two full sets of big-band arrangements of songs that date from 1918 to the present, and the vocal stylings of Erin Wyllie and Rob Johnson. Even though Swing is their middle name, two-step, swing, pop, funk, it’s “All That Jazz” to the CSO!
A concert not to be missed, it starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling the Box Office at 519-855-4586. Century Church Theatre is at 72 Trafalgar Rd., Hillsburgh.
