Despite being blanked in their last two at-bats, the Bolton Dodgers still have a decent spot in the North Dufferin Baseball League standings.
After eight games, the Dodgers have a 3-5 record, but that’s still good for ninth spot in the standings of the 14-team league.
After winning over the Clearview Orioles May 26, the Dodgers hit a wall and failed to score a single run in their next two games.
They were shut out June 1, with a 1-0 loss to the Orillia Majors.
On the return to their home diamond at North Hill Park in Bolton last Wednesday (June 5), they came up short with a 6-0 loss to the visiting Ivy Leafs.
The Leafs led the scoring in Wednesday’s game with a first inning that saw the Ivy squad load the bases, then drive in two runs with a hit to mid field.
The Dodgers started the game with three men up and three down, ending with a line drive to first base the stopped the inning.
Hitting wasn’t a problem for the Dodgers. They just managed to hit to all the wrong places.
A third-inning fly to deep centre field and an infield fly started the Dodgers with two quick outs. That was followed by a nice line drive that got by the Ivy shortstop to give Bolton a man on base.
The inning ended with slick play by the Ivy shortstop when he caught a hard drive and followed up with a throw to second to catch the runner off base.
The Leafs notched another run in the fourth inning when an error at first base gave another runner time to score.
At the end, the Dodgers couldn’t get a run and they lost 6-0 to the visitors.
The Bolton Brewers are currently leading the NDBL senior division followed by the Orillia Majors in second place.
The Dodgers have three road games on the schedule this week, including a double header against the Barrie Angels this weekend, and an evening game against the Creemore Braves.
They will return to the diamond at North Hill Park in Bolton this Saturday (June 15), for another double header.
This time they will face the first place Bolton Brewers in a hometown match up.
The first game will get underway at 1 p.m. followed by the second game immediately after.
