A well-loved pharmacist that’s served Caledon East for 38 years will soon retire.

Samuel Lai established Caledon East Guardian Drugs on March 7, 1987 and has been working in the community ever since. His big impact on the community is being celebrated by some of his current and former employees.

Lina Salvatore is the front shop manager at the Caledon East Guardian Pharmacy and has worked with Lai since 1994. Lina’s daughter, Rita, also worked at the pharmacy for around 10 years. They both said Lai has had a lasting impact on them, and wrote to The Citizen in order to recognize Lai on the occasion of his retirement.

“Sam has been more than just a pharmacist. He has been a trusted advisor, a caring mentor, and a constant source of knowledge and support for patients and colleagues alike,” said Rita and Lina. “It’s the personal connections that truly define Sam’s impact. He has been a trusted figure in our community, someone patients could turn to in times of need, offering comfort, guidance, and expertise. He has touched countless lives with his compassion, and for that, we are all deeply grateful. He has been a constant in this community, sponsoring and donating to countless community teams and events.”

Rita and Lina said Lai has remained steadfast in his commitment to exceptional care over the years.

“While we will certainly miss his wisdom, his laughter, and his steady presence, we are also excited for him as he embarks on this next chapter of his life. May retirement bring him the joy and relaxation he so richly deserves,” they said. “On behalf of everyone in the community, thank you, Sam, for your extraordinary service and dedication. You leave behind a legacy of care, compassion, and professionalism that will continue to inspire us all.”

To celebrate Lai’s retirement, the community is invited to Caledon East Guardian Pharmacy on April 22.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be cake and refreshments served, and residents will be able to meet Marina and Peter, the team that will be taking over the pharmacy.
