Caledon residents will soon have a place to view live music and theatre outdoors.
At Caledon Council’s March 4 General Committee meeting, Councillors unanimously agreed on the name for a new bandshell that will be built in Dick’s Dam Park in Bolton and is expected to be complete this Spring.
The “Rotary Performing Arts Pavilion” will be a home for outdoor performances in the heart of Bolton.
The Rotary Club of Bolton has undertaken significant fundraising efforts in order to make the project a reality, and has donated $100,000 to the Town of Caledon to assist in the building of the bandshell.
The name of the bandshell, and three free uses of it per year, show the Town’s thanks to Bolton Rotary for their efforts. As well, a section of the bandshell will feature commemorative bricks with the names of donors who helped make the project a reality.
The Bolton Bandshell project was first established in 2021 amid Bolton’s bicentennial celebrations “to provide the Town’s local musical and theatre groups with an outdoor place to showcase their talents,” according to a staff report.
The report notes Dick’s Dam Park was chosen as the location for the bandshell for a number of reasons: it’s close to historical downtown Bolton and local businesses; it’s within walking distance to over 14,000 Caledon residents; it’s minimally disruptive to existing homes; and there is sufficient parking near it.
