The month of June is coined Rotary Fellowship Month in the Rotary calendar.
“Fellowship,” as defined by Rotary, means groups of Rotarians and their spouses who join together to:
• Share a common interest in worthwhile recreational activities (sports, hobbies, etc.);
• Further their vocational development through acquaintances with others of the same profession;
• Make new friends around the world;
• Explore new opportunities for service; and
• Have fun and enhance their experience in Rotary.
The standard dictionary definition reads “friendly association, especially with people who share one’s interests.”
This is what Rotary is all about.
Each week, community members meet to share a meal, catch up on each other’s lives, discuss local service projects, hear from compelling speakers and reinvest our commitment to bettering our communities — locally and abroad.
Sometimes we meet at a local organization to help in a hands-on way — such as sorting food at food bank, planting gardens, etc. Other nights, we organize social events just as a way to bring us all together for some fun.
Whatever the focus, we know that each week we will be among friends who are there for the same reason — service above self. And that is a strong bond and wonderful thing to be a part of.
