Residents planning walk against Highway 413 in memory of activist

A group of Caledon residents are continuing their fight against the proposed Highway 413.

On October 14, the Harvest Ontario Walk to Stop the 413 will be held in Bolton. It’s being held in memory of Caledon environmentalist Jenni Le Forestier, who passed away on December 9, 2022.

The walk will start at 10 a.m. in two different locations. Residents are invited to meet at either the Bolton Fairgrounds (150 Queen Street South) or the baseball diamonds at the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness (14111 Highway 50).

From the starting points, walkers will proceed into Downtown Bolton and meet at the Bolton Mill Park before rallying at the intersection of King and Queen streets.

Caledon residents Dan O’Reilly and Betty de Groot are helping plan the walk.

O’Reilly said the purpose of the walk is to keep focus on the 413, as even though Premier Doug Ford recently reversed his controversial Greenbelt land swap, the proposed Highway 413 has not gone away.

Jenni Le Forestier fought so much to protect the Greenbelt and stop the 413, said de Groot.

“This is an issue that was important to her… and to all of us,” said de Groot.
