Dignitaries take on dunk tank for Hospice

By Brock Weir

Residents and dignitaries alike took the plunge all in good fun at the recent Valleywood Block Party.

Held Saturday, August 24, the annual event was bigger and better than ever.

A particular highlight for 2024 was the dunk tank where guests had the chance to dunk Councillors Dave Sheen and Mario Russo all for a good cause. The dunk tank raised more than $1,200 for the Bethell Hospice Foundation.

“Hundreds of residents from Valleywood and surrounding areas gathered to enjoy the festivities, which featured a Kids Zone, live entertainment, a diverse food and vendor market, and a dunk tank that proved to be a crowd favorite,” said Sonia D’Alimonte, Volunteer Event Organizer. “The Kids Zone was a hub of excitement, sponsored by Making Waves Swim School. Children enjoyed a variety of activities that kept them entertained throughout the day. Ms. Marianne’s Power of Performing Arts ensured the entertainment was top-notch, with performances that captivated audiences of all ages.

“Meanwhile, the vendor market, sponsored by Attrell Toyota, showcased a range of local businesses, offering everything from delicious food to unique handcrafted items.

“The event’s success was made possible by the support of its sponsors, including Abhiraj Kumar from Remax Gold as the Presenting Sponsor, and a dedicated team of community partners, vendors, entertainers, and volunteers. Their combined efforts brought the South Caledon community together for a memorable day that not only celebrated local talent and businesses but also supported a worthy cause.

“As the day came to a close, the sentiment was clear—Valleywood Block Party 2024 was a proud moment for the community, and plans are already underway to make next year’s event even bigger and better. The organizers and sponsors expressed their gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the event, and they are excited to continue this beloved tradition in the years to come.”
