A charity dedicated to addressing poverty, supporting essential services and finding long-term solutions just received a big boost.

On February 27, Peel Region Chair Nando Iannicca presented two cheques — one from Peel Region employees and the other from Peel Regional Police employees — totalling $252,632 to United Way Greater Toronto.

“For over four decades, Peel Region has been a proud partner of United Way, and this year’s campaign is yet another example of the incredible spirit of giving among our employees,” said Iannicca. “Every dollar raised goes directly toward supporting critical programs that help those in need, and I’m so grateful to everyone who contributed to making a real difference in our community.”

Anita Stellinga, Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Policy, and Corporate Secretary of United Way Greater Toronto, said for Peel to thrive, it must thrive for everyone.

“Year after year, Peel Region and Peel Regional Police step up for their community, demonstrating unwavering generosity and commitment,” said Stellinga. “As poverty deepens, the cost of living soars, and too many struggle to access vital services — whether for housing, mental health, or basic needs — this support will help fund over 90 United Way programs across Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga. Thanks to the dedication of staff and volunteers, more individuals and families will get the help they need, close to home.”

Peel Region Chief Administrative Officer Gary Kent said he wanted to express his sincere gratitude to Peel Region and Peel Regional Police staff for their generosity during the recent United Way campaign.

“Your efforts have made a significant difference, raising more than $252,000 to help tackle the unaffordability crisis that’s affecting our community. This remarkable accomplishment shows how dedicated you are to making Peel stronger and more resilient. I am genuinely proud of what we have achieved together, and your ongoing support of United Way is evidence of the kindness and commitment that characterize our workforce,” said Kent.
