Pride Week in Peel Region will run from tomorrow (Friday) to July 19.
That was announced by the Region recently, and Caledon council Tuesday passed a motion proclaiming the week in town,
The motion stated that gay pride celebrations have become common in many Canadian cities, and that the Pride Committee of Peel is celebrating its 10th anniversary Pride Week.
“It is understood that the dignity and equality of all members of the community serve as the foundation of a free, peaceful and just society,” the Town’s motion stated. “It remains important to recognize the essential worth of every human person and to promote the development of harmonious relationships amongst all members of the community.”
The week will kick off with the Pride Week in Peel Festival, taking place at the Mississauga Celebration Square Amphitheatre tomorrow from 5 to 11 p.m. The Festival will feature performances, a public march, community booths and a dance party. Ending off the week will be the 11th annual Pride Day Picnic July 19 from noon to 8 p.m. at Chinguacousy Park in Brampton.
“There are so many ways to get involved” commented Kevin Rambally, a Pride Week in Peel Planning Team member, “and we are so excited about the growth of the week!”
