Paramedics working in our area have been honoured for their years of great service to the community.

On October 4, the Region of Peel announced that seven of its paramedics were honoured with the 2023 Governor General’s Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal.

Paramedics become eligible for this medal after 20 years of service that’s deemed exemplary — through good conduct, industry and efficiency. Ten of those years of service must be completed in the field, where there is potential risk to the paramedic.

On September 28, the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chief’s Award Ceremony was held at Blue Mountain.

There, paramedics Alison Crossby, Michael Donnelly, Danielle Gingrich, and Brent Gorzynski received their 20-year Exemplary Service Medal.

Later this year, in a ceremony at Queen’s Park, 30-year Exemplary Service Bars will be given to paramedics Mark Symington and Keith Young. A 40-year Exemplary Service Bar will be presented to paramedic Brian Parkes.

Peel’s Chief Paramedic, Brian Gibson, said the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal is one of the highest honours a paramedic can receive in Ontario.

“The dedication and contribution of these paramedics over the years not only to Peel’s communities but also to the paramedic profession is being recognized and rightfully so,” said Gibson. “I hope they wear their medals with pride.”
