Three students have been selected by their peers to represent their peers for the next school year.
On February 26, the Peel District School Board (PDSB) announced the winners of the 2025-26 Student Trustee election for the Board.
The three elected student trustees are as follows: Amenah Gangat, from Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School, as the trustee representing schools north of the 401; Julia Zhu, from Clarkson Secondary School, representing students south of the 401; and Indica Simms Johnny, from Rick Hansen Secondary School, as the Indigenous student trustee.
This is the second year that PDSB students have been able to elect an Indigenous student trustee. The role elects a self-identifying Indigenous student that is nominated by students who voluntarily self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.
The three newly-elected trustees will now represent over 148,000 students as they sit on board meetings, amplify the voice of students in decisions about education in Peel, and help keep students informed about policies and actions that will impact them.
The trustees will officially begin their term on August 1 and will be sworn in at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.
