Caledon Councillor Richard Paterak is considering a run at being the next Chair of Peel Region, and said a decision should be made by the end of this week.
“I haven’t quite decided yet, but it’s getting late,” he said earlier this week.
Paterak is completing his fifth term representing Ward 1 on Caledon council (the last three terms as a Regional councillor). He was defeated in last month’s municipal elections by Barb Shaughnessy.
Long-time Regional Chair Emil Kolb will be stepping down next month, and his successor will be chosen by the new Regional councillors. One of the complications facing Paterak is some of the councillors have committed themselves to certain candidates.
“I am still giving it consideration,” he said.
“I enjoy the work,” he added. “I have a lot of things at the Region I’m very interested in.”
Paterak also said he believes he has the experience and the skills to make a good Chair.
“It has a lot of appeal,” he commented.
