Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives has seen a great turnout for events held so far
By Zachary Roman
April is Sikh Heritage Month and the Peel Art Gallery, Museum, and Archives (PAMA) has several events coming up to celebrate.
Peel’s museum and the Sikh Heritage Month Foundation have forged a great partnership over the years.
Erin Fernandes, Marketing Specialist for PAMA, explained for the entirety of April there will be art on display at PAMA from five different local Sikh artists. Entrance to PAMA is free for this exhibition during PAMA’s open hours, which can be found online at pama.peelregion.ca.
On Thursday, April 20, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. world-renowned artist Inkquisitive (Amandeep Singh) is visiting PAMA from the United Kingdom to unveil some new art.
“(Inkquisitive) is a very exciting artist,” said Fernandes. “He’s doing a pop-up exhibition.”
On Friday, April 21, author and artist Keerat Kaur will host a question and answer about her new book, Panjabi Garden. This event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. as well.
An awesome day of celebrating Sikh Heritage is planned for Saturday, April 22 when an outdoor concert will be held on the PAMA grounds. In addition to the concert, there will be a vendor marketplace, food, art exhibition and workshops. The Saturday event is sponsored by the City of Brampton’s Marquee Festival and Event Fund.
“There will be lots going on on Saturday and lots of people mingling,” said Fernandes.
Among those performing on Saturday evening, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. are Raaginder, Jagmeet Saini, and Raj Academy. Exhibits by Keerat Kaur, Inkquisitive and local artists will also be on display on Saturday.
Free registration is required for Saturday’s event, as well as the events on Thursday and Friday.
Registration can be done online at sikhheritagemonth.ca/calendar.
This year marks the tenth year Sikh Heritage Month has been celebrated in Ontario, and for eight of those years PAMA has partnered with the Sikh Heritage Month Foundation to provide programming at its grounds, located at 9 Wellington Street East in Brampton.
