Women’s heart health at William Osler Health System (Osler) has been supported in a big way, thanks to the combined efforts of Shoppers Drug Mart and its store teams and customers.
The Shoppers Drug Mart 2014 Tree of Life fundraising campaign has harvested more than $33,326 for Osler Foundation in support of the cardiology program at Brampton Civic Hospital.
With more than 1,240 Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores across Canada participating in the four-week campaign, the 13th annual Tree of Life campaign will provide support to over 487 Canadian women’s health charities. National in scope yet locally based, the Tree of Life campaign offers patients, customers and employees the opportunity to donate directly to charitable organizations to ensure that resources and programming are available to meet the needs of Canadian women.
“We are extremely grateful to the Shoppers Drug Mart employees and customers who participated in the Tree of Life campaign this year. Their generous support allows us to invest in top-of-the-line cardiology equipment and resources at Brampton Civic,” said Maureen Sheahan, vice-president of philanthropy with William Osler Health System Foundation. “Over the years, the campaign has raised more than $160,000 for the education, care and support needed to keep women’s hearts healthy in our community. The Tree of Life campaign is a wonderful example of the community coming together to help their neighbours.”
Osler Foundation is a registered charity devoted to providing Osler with the funds to expand clinical programs and enhance patient care at its three sites: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital and the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness.
Serving one of the fastest-growing and most culturally-diverse regions in Canada, Brampton Civic provides a mix of emergency, inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital’s angioplasty program was launched in late 2011. Last year, the program helped more than 1,900 patients. In recognition of Shoppers Drug Mart’s generous ongoing support, a recognition plaque hangs in the Cardiology department at Brampton Civic.
