The Canadian Institute of Planners announced last Wednesday that it has made Orangeville’s downtown Broadway the 2015 winner of its Great Street and People’s Choice awards in its Great Places of Canada contest.
Great Places in Canada was created to celebrate and share those places which make one’s community unique and to recognize the work of professional planners. Each nominated place is showcased on www.greatplacesincanada.ca
“Broadway is the hub of the community’s social, cultural and economic activities,” the Town of Orangeville stated in making the nomination. “From specialty shops and businesses to historical buildings, from street festivals and popular eateries to unique landscape features, Broadway is a kaleidoscope of all that’s vibrant and interesting about the community’s life.”
The contest’s two other winners were both from British Columbia — the West End of Vancouver for Great Neighbourhood and Stuart Park in Kelowna for Great Public Space.
