While some playgrounds and parks across Caledon are undergoing improvements and upgrades, another has been closed due to safety concerns.
On April 2, the Town of Caledon announced a temporary closure of the playground at Adam Wallace Memorial Park.
The main playground structure has been closed due to safety concerns, and was stated to not be safe for use. It has been secured with temporary fencing.
It was said the closure is being implemented in the interest of public safety, and will remain in effect until further notice.
But the independent overhead climbers and swing set will continue to remain open and available for public use.
Amid closures, there are also improvements.
Three parks across Caledon will undergo construction anticipated from April 1, 2026, to June 19, 2026, to bring new improvements to each location.
R.W. Moffat Park, Whitbread Park and Newhouse Park can expect playground and pathway closures during the active construction period of each site to ensure public safety.
At R.W. Moffat Park in Bolton, improvements include replacing the existing playground structure complete with engineered wood fibre safety surfacing, drainage, concrete perimeter curbs, and an accessible concrete ramp into the play area.
Site improvements also include a new accessible pathway to the playground, an accessible seating area and a permanent trash receptacle.
Also in Bolton, Whitbread Park will see the replacement of the existing playground structure complete with engineered wood fibre safety surfacing, as well as a new concrete curb perimeter at the existing swing set area and accessible concrete ramps providing access into both the play and swing set areas.
Site improvements also include replacing the existing concrete unit paving with concrete paving, bench replacements, and a permanent trash receptacle.
In the Valleywood subdivision, Newhouse Park will also see the replacement of the existing playground and swing set complete with engineered wood fibre safety surfacing, modifications to the existing sand play areas, and an accessible concrete ramp into the play area.
Site improvements include the removal and restoration of a dead-end pathway connection, bench replacements and a permanent trash receptacle.
It was stated that no road closures are required for improvements at each location, and neighbouring properties of the park can expect construction noise at times throughout the day for the duration of the project.
