The Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon is excited to welcome nominations for its 2013 Women of Achievement Awards, recognizing women from Brampton and Caledon, who have made exemplary contributions to their communities.
Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 3. The 2013 Women of Achievement Awards Gala will take place at The Pearson Convention Centre Nov. 21.
“The Women of Achievement Awards is a way to celebrate women who have made a significant difference,” commented Event Chair Kathleen Douglass of the Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon. “The awards are a wonderful opportunity to honour women of the Brampton and Caledon communities who, by their own initiative, dedication, perseverance and pioneering spirit, are role models for other women.”
The 2013 Women of Achievement Awards recognize the leadership displayed by women in a number of fields of interest. Last year’s recipients were Carole Berry — Community Service; Marilyn Field — Business, Professional and Trades; Mary Nanavati — Education, Training and Development; and Stephanie Noronha — Young Woman of Achievement.
The following is a list of categories open for nomination.
• Arts and Culture — Women who have achieved excellence in, or made significant contributions to, the performance, development, preservation or patronage of, the visual, literary, performing, or creative arts.
• Business, Professional and Trades — Women who have been inspiration and motivation of changes in their profession, trade or workplace.
• Health, Science and Technology — Women who have shown excellence through either research or application to any science, pure or applied for technological advancement.
• Community Service — Women who have shown outstanding leadership through involvement in social services, human rights, labour, women’s issues, action programs and/or service clubs.
• Education, Training and Development — Women who have made Contributions in any learning environment through teaching, training specialized instruction research, development or administration.
• Sports, Wellness and Healthy Living — Women with accomplishments and leadership in fitness, well-being, sports, recreation, active hobbies or healthy living.
• Young Woman of Achievement: This young woman is to be 18 to 25 years of age as of Nov. 1, 2013. She should be an inspiration to other women by volunteering her time, and be a role model to her peers.
Three women will be recognized and one young woman of achievement at this event.

The 2013 Women of Achievement Awards Gala will also raise funds for women in Brampton and Caledon area. Tickets to the Gala are $90 per person.
The Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon has been continually serving the community since 1974. As part of its mandate, Zonta Club has responded to local needs, undertaking projects which address women’s economic self-sufficiency, education, security and health. Support to the community includes sponsorship of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Peel Spring luncheons, the purchase of two vans for the Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre, donations to the Peel Literacy Guild, Project Achieve bursaries to secondary schools and many other organizations such as Our Place Peel, Rapport House and Brampton Civic Hospital.
The Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon is a chapter of Zonta International, which has been serving the world since 1919. Zonta International is a world-wide service organization of professionals working to improve the legal, political, economical and health status of women at both the local and global levels.
