At its Sept. 9 Administration and Finance Committee meeting, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board officially swore in its two new student trustees for the 2013-14 school year.
Matthew MacNeil, a Grade 12 student at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Brampton will represent students in the northern part of the board’s district. Natasha Lizzi, a Grade 12 student at Iona Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga will represent students to the south.
“Our two student trustees hold an important role in the promotion of Catholic Education and are a veritable asset to our board in sharing student concerns,” said Director of Education John Kostoff.
“We welcome Matthew and Natasha as our student trustees for 2013-14,” said Board Chair Mario Pascucci. “They continue our tradition of providing student perspective at the board table and we look forward to working with them in their new roles.”
Student trustees serve an important role for the board. They represent the voice of students in decisions about education in Dufferin-Peel, and they help keep students informed about important decisions that affect them. Student trustees attend monthly public board and standing committee meetings in a non-voting capacity.
