Local volunteers and Special Olympics athletes were recently recognized for their successful fundraising efforts.

The Motionball Caledon team were recently awarded the Jones Cup at Motionball’s annual general meeting.

The Jones Cup is awarded annually to the Motionball chapter with the highest overall growth percentage.

Motionball is a national non-profit that raises money for Special Olympics across Canada with social and sporting events. Local chapters put together events in their communities.

Last year’s Motionball Marathon of Sport event in Caledon was attended by over 100 people, and between fundraising and sponsorships, over $25,000 was raised. That’s up from around about $15,000 in 2023.

At a Motionball event, participants enjoy playing sports like soccer, ultimate frisbee, and kin-ball alongside Special Olympics athletes. Participants form teams and collect pledges to raise money for Special Olympics.

A date has already been set for the Caledon’s 2025 Motionball Marathon of Sport: September 13. This year’s event will be held at a new location, the Caledon East Community Complex.

Registration for the event will open in spring, and more details about it will be coming soon.
