As clean-up continues in the wake of the massive ice storm, Mayor Marolyn Morrison took time out last week to acknowledge the contributions of staff.
Caledon was particularly hard hit by the storm which ravaged the Greater Toronto Area a couple of days before Christmas. Several Caledon residents were without electricity for several days that followed.
Morrison made a point at last week’s Town council meeting of delegating council to thank staff for the extra hours many of them put in during the days that followed the storm.
“We couldn’t have done this without everyone working so hard,” she commented.
Morrison noted the efforts included volunteer firefighters knocking on doors to make sure the occupants at the home were safe and taken care of. In other cases, there were extra efforts to make water available to farms so livestock would be looked after.
Morrison said she’s still hearing comments from residents on the work that was done.
She recalled spending a lot of time emergency control centre that was set up at Town Hall. “People were there all the time,” she said.
Morrison presented plaques of appreciation to Parks and Recreation Director Kristene Scott, Fire Chief David Forfar and Public Works Director David Loveridge.
Councillor Allan Thompson praised parks and recreation staff for keeping warming centres operating, also pointing out several part-time employees put in a lot of hours in the days following the storm.
“They didn’t question,” he said. “They stepped right up to the plate.”
