Caledon OPP reports the prognosis is good for a 43-year-old Burlington man who went over an Alton waterfall in a canoe Friday morning.
Police said they were called out, along with Caledon Fire and Emergency Services, at about 10:30 a.m.
The investigation indicates a male and female were near a 25-foot waterfall in the canoe when for unknown reasons the boat seemed to get too close to the edge. The female was able to get out without injury. The male remained inside the canoe as it travelled over the waterfall.
He was transported to Headwaters Health Care Centre with life threatening injuries and was later transferred to a trauma centre.
Police reported Tuesday the man did not sustain spinal cord injuries, but will likely need plastic surgery to deal with some cuts.
Police are asking anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact them at 905-584-2241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
