Headwaters Health Care Centre has announced that Lynn Sinclair-Smith has won the prestigious Dr. David Scott Award.
Sinclair-Smith has been a familiar face around Headwaters for 20 years, with leadership of the hospital’s Friendship Gardens since the facility opened.
The award is named after retired surgeon and life-long Orangeville resident Dr. David Scott, who came to Orangeville in 1962 as the town’s first specialist (general surgery) and dedicated his life to improving the health and wellness of the community. The award is presented annually and recognizes individuals or groups who have gone above and beyond to improve overall health and wellness in Dufferin-Caledon, and promote links between the hospital and the community.
Sinclair-Smith, who was presented with the award at Headwaters’ annual general meeting, is the organizing and fundraising force behind the Friendship Gardens, which surround the hospital. Under her strong leadership and guidance, and with the help of local volunteers, Sinclair-Smith and her team care for 10 different gardens with more than 450 trees. They have also raised over $200,000 in donations to support their work.
“Lynn’s passion and dedication to creating and nurturing peaceful, therapeutic gardens for our patients and families is tremendous, and is beautifully aligned with the theme and spirit of the Dr. David Scott Award,” said incoming Board Chair Louise Kindree. “Her vision for the Friendship Gardens, along with her personal commitment and leadership in bringing teams together to support this work inspires us all. We are thrilled to recognize her this year.”
