Caledon students worked together for a good cause this week.
On Monday, October 23, Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School students held a special event to raise money for breast cancer research and raise awareness about the disease.
Everyone at the school was encouraged to wear pink on Monday, the colour associated with breast cancer awareness. The class that had the most pink accessories won a bucket of sour keys to share.
Anna Mancini, department head of religious education at Robert F. Hall, said this competition made spirits high around the school.
She explained many bulletin boards were posted around the school’s hallways, sharing essential information about breast cancer.
Mancini said during all lunch periods on Monday, Robert F. Hall’s Female Empowerment club sold sour keys and teddy bears to raise money for breast cancer research. Mancini is the teacher adviser for the club, and students Danielle Ferri and Harveer Sangha are its student leaders.
In total, $665 was raised from the sale of the candy and stuffed animals.
To end the day of fun for a good cause, the Female Empowerment Club organized a teacher versus student flag football game.
“Naturally, the girls flag football team defeated the teachers,” said Mancini. “There are talks of a rematch for the spring.”
Mancini said she wanted to thank Dale Paolucci’s leadership class for their assistance in organizing the day’s charitable events. Mancini also thanked Guilia Trisi and Erin McMorrow for their support of the Female Empowerment Club.
