Small-scale farmers are invited to celebrate the International Year of Soils by growing their knowledge on how to protect their farm’s most precious resource.
Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is offering a workshop for small-scale farmers to learn how to protect and improve their soil’s health April 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Whole Village in Caledon,at 20728 Shaws Creek Rd.
Special guest speaker Ken Laing, from Orchard Hill Farm, will discuss topics such as soil microbes, balancing plant nutrients and using organic soil amendments.
“Soil microbiology and structure are fundamental to sustainable local food production. This workshop will be a great way to learn about maintaining your soil’s health and supporting your farm’s productivity,” said CVC Director Restoration and Stewardship Mike Puddister. “The workshop will also provide information on the grants and resources available for stewardship projects on your property.”
This is the first time CVC is offering a workshop specifically for small-scale farmers, but all rural landowners are welcome. This workshop is free thanks to funding from CVC’s regional and municipal partners.
