A community meeting is being planned for Thursday (March 6) at Caledon Village Place to discuss a proposed seniors lifestyle community.
A conceptual proposal and design for a fully integrated seniors community has been suggested for some 200 acres immediately north of the Giles/Hawthorn Acres subdivisions between Highway 10 and Kennedy Road, about one kilometre north of Charleston Sideroad.
Councillors Richard Paterak and Doug Beffort reported the land owners have presented to the Seniors Advisory Committee of the Town of Caledon a concept of seniors housing, incorporating three phases of housing from individual units to retirement residence to institutional needs on the same campus. The concept is known as Heather Glenn Seniors Village.
The concept, as presented, addresses the strong need for seniors’ accommodation in many forms. There are, however, many hurdles to overcome, including satisfying the Greenbelt Act; how to service the land for water and wastewater; and how to meet the requirements of the Town’s Official Plan.
The councillors are anxious to hear what the public thinks of this concept. They added the Heather Glenn group has veen invited to make a presentation.
No formal application has been made yet.
The meeting will start at 7 p.m.
