Lack of male actors in Shelburne results in all-female play

When you squeeze the lemon, you get lemonade, they say.
The non-appearance of male actors at Tipling Stage Company’s recent auditions for the scheduled production of What the Heart Wants by David Nicholson has led to a quick decision to substitute a very apt comedy set on the soccer field. Secrets of a Soccer Mom by Kathleen Clark is a 90-minute look into the lives of three mothers as they strategize at a Sunday afternoon kids’ soccer game.
Nancy, Lynn and Alison reluctantly take the field in a mothers vs. sons soccer game. They intend to let the children win, but as the game unfolds, they become intent on scoring. The competition ignites a fierce desire to recapture their youthful good-humour, independence and sexiness, paving the way toward a better understanding of themselves, their families and changes they need to make in their lives.
It’s fun, it’s absorbing, it’s highly relatable and will appeal to all the soccer moms in the area, as well as the soccer dads who were too busy to consider trying out at TSC’s original auditions!
The play will be presented June 12, 13 and 14.
