Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones is congratulating all Olympians, especially those who hail from the riding, who will be competing at the Sochi Winter Olympics and the Sochi Winter Paralympics.
Three athletes call Dufferin-Caledon home: Jake Holden — snowboard cross; Brittany Webster — cross-country skiing; and Caleb Flaxey — curling. The Canadian Paralympian team is still being finalized, but the sledge hockey squad is set and it includes Orton native Bradley Bowden returning to the roster once again (Bowden competed in the 2006 and 2010 Olympics).
“I am thrilled to see some local talent compete in the Sochi Winter games,” Jones said. “For an athlete, the Olympics is a hallmark event that defines many years of practice, skill development and training.”
“Congratulations Jake, Brittany, Caleb and Bradley,” she added. “We will be cheering for you proudly.”
Canada is sending its largest team to date with a total of 221 athletes in 93 out of 98 medal competitions. Paralympian athletes compete in six medal competitions.
