Ontarians can hope for safer highway conditions next winter as the Auditor General released her report on winter road maintenance.
Caledon council recently received notice of the report from Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca. He stated it featured a “thoughtful review,” with recommendations for a more successful winter with snow removal.
The report had eight recommendations for the Ministry. They identify improvements with maintenance contracts, oversight of highway maintenance contract, the effective use of equipment, and sand, salt or anti-icing liquid to achieve the Ministry’s snow clearing standards, as well as contractors patrolling and reporting and improved communications with the public on winter driving conditions.
“Being able to travel safely on our highways is very important to Ontarians, and at the Ministry of Transportation, it’s our top priority,” Del Duca wrote.
He added the Ministry has worked to improve the quality of highway snow clearing by adding more than 100 pieces of equipment.
