Congratulations to the Humberview students who competed in Nordic skiing this season, despite some challenges.
Several Huskies skied in the open high school provincial invitational Nordic ski races at Highlands Nordic Centre in Duntroon Feb. 25.
Nicole de St. Croix and a team of Humberview senior boys — Cam Thompson, Kyle MacIsaac, Devin Hymers, Hayden Gorman, Devin Owens and Joseph Roque — raced in a field of close to 300 high school racers from across the province and performed admirably, with the boys finishing seventh overall. They are to be commended for continuing to train and ski on their own when the school season ended early.
Special acknowledgement also goes to Laura Deare, who earned a bronze medal at the Mono Nordic race earlier this month, and to de St. Croix, Thompson and Owens for their awesome completion of the Gatineau 27-kilometre Loppet in Quebec in late February. In addition, Thompson should be recognized for taking on the organizing of the team. He demonstrated exceptional dedication, determination and leadership in pursuing his passion, achieving personal goals and helping others to have positive skiing experiences this year, despite difficult circumstances. Opportunities to enjoy training and skiing were possible thanks to him.
All the best to the graduating senior boys who will be missed next year.
