Have input on keeping Caledon greenest town in Ontario

February 13, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Caledon has been known as the “greenest town in Ontario,” and efforts have been mounted to keep things that way.
The Town is updating its Environmental Strategic Plan, known as the Environmental Progress Action Plan, and the public is invited to comment.
Residents are invited to a roundtable session at Caledon Community Complex in Caledon East Feb. 25 to provide input and generate ideas on what the Town can do to reduce its impact on the environment.
The session will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to confirm their attendance, or to get more information, are asked to contact Energy and Environment Officer Katelyn McFadyen at environment@caledon.ca or 905-584-2272, ext. 4169.
“The Town of Caledon has made significant progress on improving its Plan and considering the environment in all activities undertaken at the Town,” Mayor Marolyn Morrison observed. “To maintain our momentum, and our status as the Greenest Town in Ontario, we want to refresh our actions and focus on areas based on the innovation and creativity that exists in our community and from municipal best practices.”
This plan, created in 2005, focused on prioritizing environmental strategic initiatives for the Town. The existing plan was built upon consultations with Town staff, council and local stakeholder groups to define focus areas like air quality, a green economy, climate change, environmental awareness, sustainable planning, community capacity, energy, etc.
