Get a jump start on New Year’s resolutions by pursuing an interest or finding a new hobby at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA).
This year, people visiting the facility can immerse themselves in arts and culture with a wide offering of registered and free programs, activities and lecture series.
Lecture Series
This Sunday (Jan. 19), from 2 to 3:30 p.m., join George Walker as he discusses his process for making his wordless narrative, The Mysterious Death of Tom Thomson, told in 109 wood engravings.
April 20, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., join Chuck Scott, chair of the PAMA Advisory Board, as he discusses the importance of art, collecting and art in the community. Scott is an accomplished film maker, fine art photographer, art consultant and writer.
The lectures are free with admission.
Registered Adult Programs
Graphic Novel Series
Have you ever wanted to create your own graphic novel or comic book?
Join local independent creators and cartoonists for four individual sessions that will help get things ready to create a graphic novel.
The first session will be Jan. 25 and will deal with self-publishing comics panel with local independent creators. The second session will Feb. 1 and will address breaking into comics with J Torres. The third session will be March 1 and the topic will be how to draw with Scott Chantler. The final session will be March 8 and with deal with comic writing with Ricky Lima.
All four session will run from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost will be $15 per session for non-members and $12.75 for members.
Abstract Art Workshops
This is an energizing abstract painting class to develop a unique artistic style. Students will learn the fundamentals of composition, colour as well as painting techniques. Join in an exciting exploration of abstraction.
The sessions will be Feb. 8 and March 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days. The cost will be $40 per session for non-members and $34 for members.
Public Programs
Concert in Chambers
The Concert in Chambers series will be set within Peel County Courthouse, Council Chambers, and promises to offer beautiful music in a beautiful setting.
The program for Feb 12 will feature Duo D’Amore from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The April 6 concert will feature the Paganini Strings from 2 to 3 p.m.
Archives Series
Paper Treasures
Join archivist Diane Allengame April 5 as she teaches how to identify different types of paper and photographic records, providing basic preservation strategies and tips. The program will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Admission to the Public Programs is pay what you can.
Interactive Henna Demonstration
Free with admission, explore the delicate beauty and individuality of tattoos/henna. This is a drop-in, interactive demonstrations with guest artists Sofia Mian and Hira Fatima.
Sessions will be Jan. 25 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.; Feb. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m.; March 6 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and March 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Art and Book Club
Free with admission, join a librarian from the Brampton Public Library March 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. to discuss this season’s selection, The House Girl, followed by a private tour of Peel’s historic Courthouse and Jail. Register in advance by calling the Brampton Library at 905-793-4636.
General Tours are every Thursday night, starting at 7 p.m. and are free with admission.
