Erin man arrested at spot check

A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check on Winston Churchill Boulevard the evening of Nov. 1 resulted in at least-one drinking and driving charge.
Caledon OPP reports the check was set up north of East Garafraxa Town Line. Shortly before 8 p.m., officers spotted a blue Chevy R10 stop before the spot check, then enter it slowly. Officers quickly detected the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath. He was given a roadside breath test, which he failed.
The driver was arrested and a search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of drugs, believed to be marijuana, and an open container of liquor.
The 49-year-old man from Erin was charged with driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system, possession of a schedule II substance and driving with an open container of liquor.
His licence was suspended on the spot for 90 days, and his car was impounded for seven days.
