June 27, 2014   ·   0 Comments

School’s out for summer!
Keep the kids from getting bored at home by traveling to Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) this summer for fun and educational activities where they can create, explore and connect. PAMA’s Kids Summer Camp kicks off at the end of June, while drop-in summer activities, starting at the end of July, are the answer to the entire family’s staycation blues.
Families on a tight budget this summer can still enjoy a trip to PAMA. Visit the Brampton Library or Caledon Public Library to check out a PAMA pass, free with your library card. The pass entitles a family (two adults and five children) to family general admission to PAMA. Passes are valid for seven days and can be used at any time this summer.
PAMA Kids Summer Camp
The theme of the first week will be “Zoom-in” to PAMA!
It will run from June 30 to July 4 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (no camp Canada Day). The cost is $148 for the week (for non-members) and $125.80 for the week (for members).
Campers will focus on the art and history of photography, including pinhole camera activities, portraiture and the science behind photography.
The second week’s theme will be Culture & Spirit
Running every day from July 7 to July 11, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the cost will be $185 for the week (for non-members) and $157.25 for the week (for members).
Come out for a week of textiles, fibres and beading in this one-of-a-kind camp. Kids will experiment with materials and techniques to create their own textile art. This week is based on Spirit Seeds: A Celebration on First Nation’s Beadwork exhibition.
The third week will deal with Up-cycled Objects
It will run from July 14 to July 18, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the cost will be $185 for the week (for non-members) and $157.25 for the week (for members).
Create wild and colourful art at PAMA. Campers will start off by learning the basics of sculpture and 3D design, then move into found-object sculptures. They will have to think outside the blue-box.

Summer Drop-in Activities
Calling All Artists! will be the them of the week running from July 21 to 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This is free with admission. Families are encouraged to explore all areas of art making, from painting and sculpture to installation art during this action-packed week. Learn more about colour, composition, figure and form using the PAMA collection. Get creative together.
The next week’s theme will be The Story of Home, from July 28 to Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This is also free with admission. The Museum is home to countless objects, all with unique stories. This week, families can explore exhibitions and learn about how generations of people have settled in Peel. Activities will include scavenger hunts, creating and playing early settlers games, storytelling and more. This will be the chance for people to connect stories with the place they call home.
PAMA is a place to explore and learn about Peel Region’s culture and heritage, as well as use conversation, questions and stories to help make new and fascinating connections to the surrounding community. Throughout the year, PAMA offers a variety of workshops and programs for all ages, families and adults. With so many different programs to choose from, PAMA has something for everyone. Operated by the Region of Peel, PAMA is at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton.
