Mayfield Secondary School
Benjamin Van Wart
This 13-year-old has been showing his prowess as setter on the junior boys’ volleyball team. “We played hard,” he said, adding they made it to the ROPSSAA quarter-finals with a lot of new players on the team. He also plans to play soccer at school in the spring. Away from school, he plays defence on a rep team in the Mississauga Soccer Club. The Grade 9 student lives in Mississauga with his parents Kim and Tim Van Wart.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School
Melissa McCall
This Grade 12 student was a rusher for the school’s flag football team, which was in its second year in Tier 1. She’s getting ready to play defence for the varsity hockey team, and is planning to play soccer in the spring. In the community, she plays hockey in the Caledon Coyotes organization, as well as lacrosse with the Orangeville Northmen. The 17-year-old lives in Caledon East with her parents Michele Marple and Rob McCall.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School
Marc-Anthony Simonetta
This 17-year-old is already turning heads with his skill as a centre on the varsity hockey team. The squad played their first game last Wednesday against Humberview and he contributed five goals to the 7-5 victory. He also plays intermural soccer at school and may try out for volleyball in the spring. Away from school, he plays AAA hockey for the Toronto Red Wings. The Grade 12 student lives in Bolton with his parents Girogio and Maria Simoneta.
Humberview Secondary School
Luke Vesz
This Grade 11 student teamed up with Kurtis Dean to win the ROPSSAA doubles tennis title. They won the right to compete at OFSSAA, but that won’t be until May. He’s also a point guard on the varsity basketball team. Away from school, he plays rep basketball in the Caledon Cougars’ organization. The 16-year-old lives in Palgrave with his parents Sandy and Rob Vesz.
