Mayfield Secondary School
Brianna Gilfoy
This Grade 12 student played forward on the varsity girls’ field hockey team, which made it to the quarter-finals of ROPSSAA for the first time in many years. She also plays field lacrosse and hockey at school. In the community, she is a forward in the Orangeville Tigers hockey organization. The 17-year-old lives in Alton with her parents Maureen and Kurt Gilfoy.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School
Gabriel Ferreira
This 16-year-old was a setter on the varsity volleyball team, which is still in a rebuilding process, but they’re hoping to make the playoffs next year. In other sports, he’s hoping there will be a curling team this year, and he’s planning to go out for soccer. In the community, he plays centre back in the Caledon Soccer Club and curls in Orangeville. The Grade 11 student lives in East Garafraxa with his parents Shelley and Tony Ferreira.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School
Marina Baldassare
This Grade 12 student was a wing forward on the school’s varsity basketball team, which finished fifth in its tier. She also plans to go out for ultimate frisbee and curling at school this year. Away from school, she plays rep basketball in the Caledon Cougars organization. The 17-year-old lives in Bolton with her parents Catherine and Ugo Baldassare.
Humberview Secondary School
Simon Quann
The 17-year-old specializes in cross-country running, and recently showed his stuff, placing 17th at ROPSSAA. He said he’s been involved in it for about three years. He’s planning to go out for track in the spring, specializing in the 800 metres. He said his best time is 1:58.02. Away from school, he’s a member of 310 Running in Bolton. The Grade 12 student lives in Bolton with his parents Rob Quann and Karen Dowsett.
