Looking for some fun, exercise, a chance to get and stay in shape, and socialize too?
The new Bolton Recreational Sports Club might be worth looking into.
This is the initiative of local resident Ryan Richards. It’s a community, not-for-profit club aimed at giving adults an opportunity to meet and connect with others.
He is proposing a variety of coed recreational sports leagues in a fun, social environment.
Richards said there are already plans to start an indoor soccer league, slated to commence play Dec. 4 at Caledon East Public School. As well, he said plans for a volleyball league are drawing considerable interest. That’s scheduled to start Jan. 8 at St. John the Baptist Elementary School.
He added he’s been in contact with the local high schools, in the hopes of getting students out to help facilitate these games, as a way of compiling the community service hours they need.
Richards commented there are clubs like this in Orangeville, Brampton, Mississauga, etc., and he wanted to see something locally. He’s also hoping to see other sports take shape, such as ultimate Frisbee and flag football, with people showing up to play, almost on a pick-up format
The club was started by Richards in August. He said he moved to the area about four years ago, and said he was looking for something to do, in the way of social sports. There are sports leagues for adults, but they are competitive.
“This is a completely social league,” he said. “It’s all for fun.”
He also said it should be successful, once the word gets out and people get more into the activities.
“This is a completely fun league,” he declared.
The club has a website; www.boltonrecsportclub.com, and it has a Community Network page, which he hopes will be a vehicle for making connections with groups and businesses in the community, and providing information on events in the area.
“It’s amazing to see all the things that are going on,” he said.
Richards said the club is geared to adults. He’s thinking of people aged 30 and older, but people a little younger would be welcome too.
“I’m not going to be checking IDs,” he said.
“I know that it will build, once people are in and having a good time,” he remarked.
The deadline for registering for soccer is Nov. 25, and it’s Dec. 9 for volleyball.
